Season Preview hosted by Plains of Almería
Over the course of the summer there will be two very exciting things happening to this website. Firstly, there should be a complete revamp of the current design and aesthetics. We would like to thank the guys (Tom and Sam) at Pixel Proof Designs for their help with this! The second thing, which is definitely much more ambitious, is the launch of a one-off digital publication available for download at 99p (or pay what you like) previewing the 2013/14 season.
The project came into fruition really due to a complete frustration with the lack of depth from the media concerning previewing the upcoming season. We as a club tend to get some snidey backhanded compliment, a joke about John Terry and then some overpaid idiot telling is that Juan Mata is “key to Chelsea’s chances this season”. Given the excitement concerning this upcoming season and the rather excellent squad we are amassing, I actually feel that people deserve something of real quality to sink their teeth into before the Premier League kicks off. This is where the idea for an articulate, yet humorous season preview came to mind.
We aim to take you through the entire Chelsea spectrum - providing you with detailed and honest opinion on the First Team right through the U21s and to the Youth Team. There will be interviews with our main rivals to determine their competitiveness entering the new season. A look back to previous pre-seasons. Of course there will be a focus on the return of the Special One - how will it all pan out? Oh, and we have an exclusive look into the diary of the departed Rafael Benitez - we have our contacts. There will be player spotlights, a look at the returning loan stars, everything you could possibly want to know about our new signings and a breathtaking analysis of exactly what this squad can achieve.
If that was not enough then we also have a section of bonus articles that will keep you entertained well into the season. Who is Chelsea’s greatest ever XI based purely on statistics? How would our academy structure benefit by fielding a B team further down the league structure? Is their a media agenda against Chelsea? We have a current football journalist working at a national newspaper break down the perceived bias. There is quite simply a tonne of content here that stretches from a journey to Munich to how the club has changed over the last decade.
The Season Preview will be hosted by Plains of Almería and feature writers from SB Nation, We Ain’t Got No History, several national media outlets, football analysts, qualified coaches, official Chelsea bloggers, over land and sea stalwarts and ultimately passionate Chelsea fans. We believe the quality of the publication and the writing talent available within will make this the must have piece to whet your appetites for the new season. If there is anything you would love to see within, be it a topic or a feature, please do leave a comment below.
Every person who downloads a copy of the publication will have the option to enter themselves into a memorabilia prize draw. There are some rare programmes, annuals, pennants, photos and other Chelsea related objects dating back to the 1950s on offer here. More on this over the next few weeks.

Really looking forward to reading more guys.
Two suggestions.
1. Would be interesting to get a closer view or opinion on the dynamics between Jose/Gourlay/Emenalo. Pivotal to future success perhaps?
2. There have been frequent references to Jose building and maintaining an ‘identity’. Well, we already have one. What is it, how did we get it, how do the club and supporters make this work to our advantage (I’m big on this one!)
Jerry,
Thank you for taking the time to comment - much appreciated.
Both are excellent suggestions and will definitely help focus some loose ideas around the subject matter. I may tackle the second head on myself!
Cheers,
Joe
Really looking forwards to this.
I think Jerry above has a few really good ideas, but I’d also like to see someone cover the financial side of the game vis a vis FFP compliance, what the TV money and new Adidas deal mean for it etc.
Hi Jon,
Thank you for the feedback. We certainly have someone looking into the FFP side of things and I suppose on a wider scale whether it actually stands up to scrutiny.
Cheers,
Joe
Both the forthcoming season and this blog look very promising and I am really looking forward to it. As a fan living in the United States who has never been to a match at Stamford Bridge or any in Europe, I would love if you could post your experiences on an away match in the Premier League or in Europe. I really loved this http://plainsofalmeria.co.uk/2012/05/22/and-munich-day-trippers-thought-they-had-delays-dont-know-they-were-born/ by Tim and was wondering if you guys could post similar experiences since most of you travel to watch our beloved Chelsea play. I believe there are many like me thousands of miles away who follow this blog and would like to experience all the emotions through your words. Thanks for the great job that you guys are doing.
